The tax framework for civil society organizations (CSOs) is an important element of the environment in which they operate. It can encourage their development and sustainability, but it can also create barriers for the functioning of civil society organizations. The favorable tax framework should reflect the specifics of the operation of CSOs, different from that of commercial entities, recognize the operation of CSOs in the wider public interest and provide tax incentives for donors to civil society organizations. Taking into account the current processes of amendments to the legal framework for associations and foundations, tax reforms, as well as the goals and tasks of the strategy of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia for cooperation with and development of the civil society 2022-2024, it is necessary to perceive the experiences with the application of the current tax framework and to develop proposals for its improvement.
The project of the European Union „Technical assistance for improving the enabling environment for Civil Society Organizations in the Republic of North Macedonia“ invites you to a consultation meeting with Civil Society Organizations on the Tax Framework for Civil Society Organizations to be held on February 28, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. (The venue of the event will be shared with interested participants). The purpose of the meeting is to contribute to the improvement of taxes that are important for CSOs. At the meeting you will have the opportunity to:
– inform yourself about the existing tax framework (income taxation, value added tax and taxation of donations and sponsorships) in the European Union countries and in the Republic of North Macedonia;
– highlight the needs and challenges you face as civil society organizations in the application of the current tax framework;
– share your suggestions for changes and improvement of taxes to correspond to the needs and specifics of the civil society organizations.
Insights and recommendations from the consultations will be shared with the Ministry of Finance and other relevant institutions to be included in the tax reforms.
Interested participants can register their participation via e-mail at the following address cvetkovic@cpmconsulting.eu no later than Friday 24 February 2023.
If you are unable to participate physically, you can also join the meeting remotely via Zoom.
The details of the event with physical presence/online will be shared with the participants who have confirmed their participation.
